Prior to this, the group had split up to try to drum up support and personnel to defeat the Goblins. Tholos had gone to get the support of Lady Emilee, his ex-employer, and on the return journey the town of Sequs was attacked and sacked by Goblins. Tholos, Dorn and others barely made it out alive.
Jevicca (with Mola in tow), Lucius, Selevar, Amnivar and Petronius had gone to Emascheron to convince the Elven Protectors to join the cause. Along the way, they rescued a young girl from Kobolds. At Emascheron, the group was joined by Neve, at Lucius' request.
Lucius was given a book from Selevar that came from his father. His father's only instruction was to give it to a non-elf. While Neve is aware that a Holy Book of the enemy was stolen by Selevar's father, she is unaware that Selevar had given the book to Lucius.
